René Lipmann
Attracted by the water out of curiosity and amazement at the life there, René Lipmann has been an avid snorkeller and (later) diver since the age of eight, seeking out the water at all hours of the day and times of the year. He almost always takes his underwater camera with him. What is special about this is that René has mainly focused on underwater photography in our fresh waters, an area that very few underwater photographers take seriously. For René, the motivation to photograph underwater, apart from his own curiosity, mainly consists of his conviction that there is much more to see underwater than people, standing at the water's edge, suspect. That is what René wants to show. For him, photographs are not isolated images, but stories written with light, each one part of day/night, seasonal or developmental cycles. Whether it is the golden morning light in the Vinkeveen lakes, developing eggs of a small fish or overwintering remains of a sponge, René's images each tell their own story. They often came about after René spent hours on end, uninterrupted in the water, waiting for that one moment. Photography is not limited to freshwater. Travel reports for DUIKEN Magazine, including challenging wrecks and caves, require reliable photo equipment. The Sea&Sea YS-D2 flash units invariably go along for the trip!
